Is the Ford Bronco Sasquatch Package Worth it?

  • By: Sean Cooper

Right out of the box, every version of the 2022 Ford Bronco is pretty handy off-road, but some Bronco models are more off-road ready than others. You can spend a significant amount of money upgrading some 2022 Ford Bronco trim levels to be even more capable off-road than in their standard form. However, is something like the $5,000 Ford Bronco Sasquatch package worth it, or would you be better off getting a higher trim level in the first place that has most of those additional features as part of the standard equipment?

What is the Ford Bronco Sasquatch package?

The Sasquatch package is a suite of upgrades for the 2022 Ford Bronco that costs as much as $6,590, and it’s available for every model other than the 2022 Ford Bronco Raptor. The package includes:

  • 35-inch tires with 17-inch Beadlock Capable wheels
  • Front and rear locking differentials
  • Blistein position-sensitive monotube shocks
  • 4.7 final drive ratio and high-clearance fender flares

Are those upgrades really worth almost $5,000 for most models? Let’s look at what standard off-road gear the Bronco gets as you go up through the various trim levels, and then we can make a judgment about the actual value of the Sasquatch Package.

2022 Ford Bronco Base (from $30,800)

We need to get straight that every version of the 2022 Ford Bronco comes with standard four-wheel drive, and this isn’t one of those simplistic AWD systems you’d find with the likes of a Mazda3. There are two 4×4 systems in the lineup, and this base model gets the more simplistic version.

However, if a salesperson tries to convince you that the base Bronco isn’t as capable as you need it to be off-road, here are some standard features you need to consider before paying more for extras.

  • The 2022 Ford Bronco Base comes with the following standard:
  • Hill Descent Control (requires manual transmission)
  • Hill Start Assist
  • AdvanceTrac with RSC (Roll Stability Control)
  • Trail Control (requires 10-speed transmission) (Available Option)
  • Trail Turn Assist (requires 10-speed transmission) (Available Option)
  • Trail One-Pedal Drive (Requires 2.7L or 3.0L engine and 10-speed auto) (Available Option)
  • 4×4 with Part-Time Selectable Engagement
  • Tow Hooks – 2 Front, 1 Rear
  • HOSS 1.0 System (High-speed Off-road Suspension System)

Cost of adding the Sasquatch Package to the Bronco Base = $4,995

2022 Ford Bronco Big Bend (from $35,285)

The Big Bend sounds like it might get some notable upgrades on the base Bronco, but none add to this model’s off-road capability.

Cost of adding the Sasquatch Package to the Bronco Big Bend = $6,590

2022 Ford Bronco Black Diamond (from $37,950)

The Bronco Black Diamond has a different look and some extra features to justify its extra price, but if off-roading is your thing, you’ll be pleased to know that it adds to the Big Bend specification with standard Rock Rails and full underbody Bash Plates.

Cost of adding the Sasquatch Package to the Bronco Black Diamond = $6,090

2022 Ford Bronco Outer Banks (from $40,885)

The Bronco Outer Banks builds on the Black Diamond specification with standard Trail Control and Trail Turn Assist. However, this model doesn’t come with standard Rock Rails and full underbody Bash Plates, so this might not be your first choice model if you’re seriously into your off-roading.

Cost of adding the Sasquatch Package to the Bronco Outer Banks = $4,200

2022 Ford Bronco Badlands (from $44,495)

The Bronco Badlands sounds like a model that would take a more hardcore approach to the off-road environment, and to some extent, it lives up to its name. The Badlands is the first trim level to come with the more advanced 4×4 system with Automatic On-Demand Engagement. It also comes with the HOSS 2.0 system with Bilstein PSDs, Ford’s Electronic-Locking Front and Rear Axle, and a Front Stabilizer Bar Disconnect feature.

Cost of adding the Sasquatch Package to the Bronco Badlands = $4,090

2022 Ford Bronco Wildrak (from $49,780)

In its standard form, the Widtrak doesn’t add much to the off-road capability you’d already enjoy with the more affordable Badlands version of the Bronco. However, this is the first trim level where you can choose to pay extra to get the available HOSS 3.0 System Package. The Wildtrak is also the first model where the more powerful 2.7-liter EcoBoost engine is part of the standard specification.

If you do pay the extra for HOSS 3.0, you’ll get FOX Internal Bypass Dampers, a high clearance ride height, Ford Performance severe-duty steering rack and tie rod ends, and a front steel bumper with fog lamps.

2022 Ford Bronco Everglades (from $53,000)

The bronco Everglades adds nothing to the off-road capability of the Wildtrak. Some features that are available upgrades for the Wildtrak are not even available for the Everglades, so this model is more of an aesthetic enhancement of the Bronco. The included Sasquatch Package includes 17-inch Carbonized Gray-Painted Alloy Wheels, which illustrates the nature of this trim level.

2022 Ford Bronco Raptor (from $68,500)

Let’s face it; if you want a Bronco and have the budget available, you’re going to go for the Raptor, aren’t you? As well as looking incredible, the Raptor also comes with Ford’s marvelous 3.0-liter EcoBoost V6 engine and HOSS 4.0 System with FOX Live Valve 3.1 Internal Bypass Semi-Active Dampers.

The manufacturer bills the 2022 Ford Bronco Raptor on its website as “Our most capable Bronco,” which is a simplistic way of saying that this is the one you want if you can possibly afford it. As well as being the fastest, coolest and most off-road capable version of the Bronco, the Raptor also sees the maximum towing capacity increase from the standard 3,500 pounds to a more useful 4,500 pounds.

Cost of adding the Sasquatch Package to the Bronco Raptor = N/A

So, is the Sasquatch Package worth it?

It appears a little pointless to add the Sasquatch Package to a low specification version of the 2022 Ford Bronco. If you went for the Base bronco and added the package, the starting MSRP would be $35,795. That’s possibly the only model I would suggest adding the Sasquatch Package. If you add it to higher specification models, you may as well go the little extra and plump for the Wildtrak instead.

Ford Bronco Wildtrack vs. the Sasquatch package

If you feel you need the extra off-road capability that the Sasquatch Package offers, I’m not convinced that a low-sped Bronco with the package is a sensible option. If that level of off-road capability is essential to you, there are more affordable ways of getting it with rival vehicles better equipped for the price.

If the 2022 Ford Bronco Raptor is beyond your budget, I think the Wildtrak is the way to go. The Bronco Wildtrak has immense off-road capability, but it also features the more powerful 2.7-liter engine, stylized LED lighting, an available hardtop for the four-door model, and a generous amount of interior and technology upgrades.
